Because we want the best for our babies, we are looking for forever homes for them where they will be loved and cherished for the rest of their lives. So, we ask everybody who is interested in buying a Dachshund from us to do their research about the breed, their idiosyncrasies, and their common health problems first and to evaluate if that fits with your lifestyle now and in 15 or 20 years down the road.
Before we agree to sell one of our “Wieners” to anybody we want to know about the future home. What the family looks like, where they live, other pets in the home, experience with dogs or Dachshunds in particular, planned training, and last but not least what the preferences are in terms of gender, color, coat and energy level. While no answer is a wrong answer (for example we have no problems selling a puppy to first time dog owners), it does give us a good indication about the applicant and their circumstances and sometimes we can steer people in a better direction in regards of a preferred puppy or dog. For example a while back, we had a beautiful silver dapple female puppy available and since it is a very sought-after color many potential buyers contacted us and wanted to meet her. However, she was full of energy and always busy so it was important to find a home for her that could provide her with lots of exercise and stimulation so that she would continue to be a well-adjusted dog in her new home. So, after guiding several families who were initially interested in her towards another puppy that matched their life style better, the right home for her was found and she and her owner are very happy together.
We also reserve the right to turn potential buyers away if we feel that they could not provide the right home for one of our babies. That usually happens when the prospective puppy buyer does not show the respect for our hard work and for the precious little life that will be entrusted to them. All animals and especially such loyal and trusting dogs like Dachshunds deserve our care and love and it is our responsibility to treat them properly. This does not only include basic care like food, shelter and veterinary care but also exercise, training and bonding time. The best way to show your love is to provide your Wiener dog with plenty of physical activity, consistent schooling and the opportunity to share your life wherever possible.
