Our pups are born and raised in our home. In order to further puppy development and welfare er use ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) exercises and daily handling during their early days to increase their ability to learn and cope with stress later on in life. Once the pups are mobile on their feet, environmental enrichment in the form of toys, playtime, outdoor experiences and social interactions with humans and other dogs will grow them into well adjusted and adaptable puppies.
At the age of 3 weeks they start using pee pads when mom teaches them to not soil their bedding. As per vet recommendation my puppies are dewormed at the age of 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks old and monthly thereafter until they leave for their new homes. Dachshunds have big and very sensitive paws and many do not like to have their nails clipped so from the age of 2 weeks old we cut their nails weekly so that they are familiar with the procedure. Ears, eyes and teeth also get inspected regularly and cleaned if necessary.
At the age of 5 weeks we introduce a crate to their play pen and they learn to go in there for peace and quiet when they are tired. It becomes their den where they feel safe and content. We also start taking them outside for short periods of time that get longer as they become more comfortable and familiar with the outdoors and different temperatures. At the age of 7 weeks we start closing the crate at night so that they learn to sleep through the night. By now the pups are happy to follow us outside to do their business there and their house training improves every day. They are well on their way knowing their names and coming when called.
At the age of 8 weeks they visit the vet for their health check, first vaccinations and to get micro-chipped. Very soon they are ready for their new families.
Puppies are strictly sold as pets on a non-breeding contract. To ensure that this policy is honored an additional spay/neuter security of $200 is due at time of purchase which is refunded as soon as I get proof of the puppy's spay or neuter.
